Burl Named Principal for New School

Brad Burl, a 2004 graduate of Arkansas Tech University, will serve as the first principal of the Pine Bluff Lighthouse Charter School.

According to a news release issued by Lighthouse Academies on Dec. 20, Burl will assume his new duties in January 2011 in preparation for the opening of the school in August 2011.

Burl was a founding member of the faculty for the Jacksonville Lighthouse Charter School, and he currently serves as that school’s director of school culture.

Before joining Lighthouse Academies, Burl taught in the North Little Rock School District for five years. He is also a reservist for the United States Air Force and a graduate of the USAF Airman Leadership School.

According to its Web site, the mission of Lighthouse Academies is to “prepare students for college through a rigorous arts-infused program.”

Burl studied graphic design while earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in art from Arkansas Tech. He went on to receive a Master of Education degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
