Lynch Named State’s Top Math Teacher

Arkansas Tech University alumna Joann Lynch, a member of the faculty at Clarksville High School, has been recognized as the top mathematics teacher in Arkansas for 2018.

Lynch received the 2018 Mathematical Association of America (MAA) Outstanding Arkansas Teacher Award during the 80th annual meeting of the Oklahoma-Arkansas section of the MAA, which was hosted by ATU in April.

The award nomination is based on the candidate’s vitae and recommendations from administrators, colleagues, students and parents. The winner is decided by a committee of the MAA.

A National Board Certified teacher, Lynch teaches AP calculus, concurrent credit college algebra and trigonometry at Clarksville High. She has served in the Clarksville School District since 2004. Previously, she taught for 22 years at Subiaco Academy.

Lynch holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics education and a Master of Education degree from ATU. She was presented with her Arkansas mathematics teacher of the year award by Dr. John W. Watson, distinguished professor of mathematics at ATU. Watson was among Lynch’s professors during her time as an undergraduate student at Arkansas Tech.
