Tech-In to Diversity and Inclusion Draws Crowd

Tech students learned more about diversity and inclusion efforts at Arkansas Tech during an event Friday evening.

The Department of Diversity and Inclusion hosted a block for students to learn about various ways to connect to campus.

Throughout the evening, students could enjoy food, music and a variety of free giveaways.

Additionally, several campus offices were on hand to provide information about services available to assist Arkansas Tech students.

Tech Students Learn About Greek Life

Arkansas Tech University students learned more about Greek life Thursday during a Meet the Greeks event at Hindsman Tower.

During the event, representatives from the various campus fraternities and sororities were on hand to meet with students and answer any questions about the recruitment process.

In addition to learning about the Greek community, students attending enjoyed complimentary music and popsicles.

The Meet the Greeks event is an annual Welcome Week Tradition.

Scholarship Opportunity for Tech Students

Eligible Arkansas Tech University students may apply for the fall 2015 Disabled American Veterans Simpson Turner Chapter 27 Scholarship.

In order to qualify for the scholarship, students must have one parent or grandparent who completed honorable service in the U.S. Army, U.S. Marines, U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Coast Guard or Arkansas National Guard. Proof of service is required.

Additionally, an applicant must be full-time Arkansas Tech student who is not solely an online student, have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5, demonstrate financial need and submit a statement of need that is no more than 500 words.

Individuals meeting the above requirements may apply by completing and returning the Arkansas Tech University Foundation scholarship application, along with two letters of recommendation.

The deadline to apply is September 11, 2015.

Recipients of the scholarship are required to attend one meeting of the DAV Simpson Turner Chapter 27.

A Day at the Lake for Students

Tech students will have the chance to explore area recreational opportunities Saturday.

Beginning at 11 a.m. shuttles will take students to Lake Dardanelle for an afternoon of food, sand volleyball, swimming and more.

The shuttles are free for students to utilize and will run through 2 p.m.

Throughout Welcome Week, students are encouraged to post their experiences on social media using the hashtag #atuwelcome.

Fight On Festival Set for Saturday

Arkansas Tech University students will be able to enjoy a free concert to culminate the end of Welcome Week festivities.

Josh Abbott Band, Whiskey Myers and Backroad Anthem will perform Saturday evening as part of the first Fight On Music Festival.

The concert will begin at 8 p.m. at Centennial Plaza, which is located adjacent to Thone Stadium at Buerkle Field.

The event is free with a valid Arkansas Tech Identification Card, and each Tech student may bring two non-university guests.
