Arkansas Tech Helps Students

Arkansas Tech University staff, students and alumni volunteered to help students find their classes on Wednesday.

Representatives were stationed at tents across campus to answer questions and offer well wishes to students beginning classes.

The information tents, hosted by the Office of University Relations and the Office of Alumni, were designed to help encourage students as they began a new academic year.

In addition to answering questions, the tents will have water, lemonade and cookies for students to enjoy.

The tents will be staffed from 7:30 – 11 a.m. on Thursday.

College Colors Day 2014 is Friday

Arkansas Tech University students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends are encouraged to wear green and gold on Friday, Aug. 29, to show their support for the university on College Colors Day 2014.

College Colors Day is a national initiative that was created in 2005 as a means of providing organizations and individuals with an opportunity to wear their team colors and share in the college spirit with friends and colleagues.

According to the website dedicated to College Colors Day, the event “strives to advocate higher education through increased public awareness and celebrates the achievements of colleges and universities.”

College Colors Day is scheduled to coincide with the beginning of each new intercollegiate athletics season.

Arkansas Tech will host its first home athletics event of 2014-15 when it faces the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Rangers for a 7 p.m. Great American Conference football game at Thone Stadium at Buerkle Field on Thursday, Sept. 4.

The contest will mark the beginning of Arkansas Tech’s 100th football season.

Tickets will be available at the gate. Those with a valid Arkansas Tech identification card will be admitted free of charge.

Party at the Plaza, Tech’s pre-game tailgating celebration, will begin outside the stadium on Centennial Plaza at 4 p.m. on Sept. 4.
