Founded in 2005 in Tahlequah, Okla., The Turnpike Troubadours have been described by Kansas City Star music writer Timothy Finn as a “gritty red dirt country band” that enjoys “a substantial following along the I-35 corridor.”

On their Facebook page, The Turnpike Troubadours categorize their sound as a mix of Americana, roots music, acoustic folk rock and country.

The band’s self-titled album reached No. 3 on the Billboard U.S. country album chart and No. 17 on the Billboard 200 all genre album chart in 2015. It was the fourth studio album for The Turnpike Troubadours, who are signed to Bossier City Records.

Prior to the Fight On Music Festival on Saturday, Aug. 26, ATU students, faculty and staff are invited to attend a Music Downtown at Sundown event presented by the Main Street Russellville organization. That concert, featuring The Flat Five and Leah and the Mojo Doctors, will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Depot Park in Russellville Downtown.
