The National Weather Service has notified the public of an enhanced threat of severe weather in Arkansas on Wednesday, April 26.
- Due to a power outage, classes are cancelled for the remainder of the day on Wednesday, April 26. Offices are closing and non-essential personnel are dismissed for the remainder of the day.
- As of 3 p.m., Chambers Cafeteria is operating on generator and open to serve students.
- A tornado warning was issued for the area including the Russellville campus of ATU at 10:02 a.m. on Wednesday, April 26. It expired at 10:30 a.m. All students, faculty and staff were instructed to take their severe weather precautions during the warning.
- Students on the Russellville campus of ATU are reminded that the parking lots west of North Glenwood Avenue may flood in times of heavy rain. Please take caution.
Strong to severe thunderstorms may impact the Arkansas Tech University campuses in Ozark and Russellville throughout the day. Additional threats include large hail (possibly lime size) and potentially damaging wind gusts approaching 70 miles per hour.
Arkansas Tech students, faculty and staff are encouraged to review the severe weather procedures outlined on the Department of Public Safety website.
In addition, each building at Arkansas Tech has designated shelter zones for use during severe weather events. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the designated shelter zones in the campus facilities they visit on a regular basis. Maps showing the shelter zones are prominently displayed in campus buildings.
Students, faculty and staff may register with the Campus Emergency and Outreach Notification (CEON) system to receive alerts when tornado warnings are issued for areas that include the Arkansas Tech campuses.
