New Tool Makes Choosing Classes Easier

Arkansas Tech University students have a new resource in helping them determine their class schedules each semester.

College Scheduler is a software program that is available under the “Student” tab on OneTech. Students may use the software to generate potential schedules based upon their preferences and other commitments, including extracurricular activity and work schedules.

“This gives students a visual and a way to look at their schedule to see how their days will go during the upcoming semester,” said Marika Lederman, director of advisement and retention in the Roy and Christine Sturgis Academic Advising Center at Arkansas Tech. “It takes a lot of error out of the registration process, and it shows scheduling conflicts immediately to demonstrate why one possibility or another will not work. It’s a good tool. We’ve heard nothing but positives from those who have used it.”

Lederman encourages all students to utilize College Scheduler to identify possible schedules before they arrive for their advising appointment to determine classes for the spring 2016 semester.

“Doing so will allow the advising appointment to be more beneficial to the student,” said Lederman. “It allows us to function as advisors rather than schedulers. The more prepared the student is, the more effective we can be during our time together at the appointment.”

All Arkansas Tech students on the Russellville campus with fewer than 60 credit hours are advised by personnel from the Sturgis Academic Advising Center.

Lederman said that all students in that category should make an appointment to be advised on their class schedules for the spring 2016 semester. The academic advising center phone number isĀ (479) 964-0843.

Registration for the spring 2016 semester begins on Monday, Oct. 26.
