NASPA Presents ATU’s Pennington With Award

Amy Pennington, dean of students at Arkansas Tech University, has received the 2017 Region IV-W Senior Level Student Affairs Professional Award from the organization NASPA, Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education.

According to NASPA, the award “honors a student affairs professional at the associate vice president or senior level whose outstanding commitment to the profession includes development of programs that address the needs of students, creation of a campus environment that promotes student learning and development and support of and active engagement in NASPA.”

Nominees for the award must have professional responsibility for the direction and oversight of two or more student affairs functional areas and/or three or more professional staff members, record of innovative programming that has had an impact on the home campus environment in more than one functional area of student affairs, volunteer service to NASPA via leadership roles at the state, regional, national or international levels and ten years of service to the student affairs profession or relevant functional area.

Pennington has served as dean of students at ATU since 2011. She previously served as director of international and multicultural student services from 2003-11, director of housing programs in the Office of Residence Life from 2000-03 and student recruitment and publicity specialist in the Office of Admissions from 1997-2000.

A 1997 graduate of Arkansas Tech with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology, Pennington earned a Master of Education degree in higher education administration from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in 2003.
