Arkansas Tech University hosted Lt. Gov. Tim Griffin for a conversation about science, technology, engineering and mathematics education on Thursday, Aug. 9.
The meeting centered on ways in which the Office of the Lieutenant Governor and ATU could partner to help develop innovative and relevant STEM educational opportunities that would appeal to students throughout their K-12 journey.
Data from the Arkansas Department of Higher Education states that Arkansas Tech is the No. 1 choice for Arkansas high school graduates who wish to study STEM at the post-secondary level.
Meeting representatives from ATU included Dr. Robin E. Bowen, president; Dr. Phillip Bridgmon, interim vice president for academic affairs; Mike Hutchison, vice president for advancement; Dr. Mary B. Gunter, chief of staff; Ashley Golleher, director of governmental relations; Dr. Judy Cezeaux, dean of the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences; Dr. Jeff Robertson, dean of the College of Natural and Health Sciences and interim dean of the Graduate College; Dr. Jeff Woods, dean of the College of Arts and Humanities; Dr. Pat Buford, associate dean of the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences; Sarah Burnett, director of the ATU Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education Collaborative; and Emily Torrealba, a senior mechanical engineering major at ATU.
