Help Stock the Green and Gold Cupboard

Every department, office and organization at Arkansas Tech University is invited to join Because We Can in stocking the Green and Gold Cupboard through an item collection competition during summer 2017.

The new pantry will provide access to meals for Arkansas Tech students, faculty members and staff members facing food insecurity, which is defined as lacking reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food. Personal care items will also be available for members of the Tech community in need.

The competition to stock the Green and Gold Cupboard will begin on Monday, July 17, and continue through Friday, Aug. 18. Each item of non-perishable, non-expired food donated to the Green and Gold Cupboard will count for one point.

High priority items — peanut butter, canned meat, feminine hygiene products, deodorant and new socks and underwear for children age 13-17 — will count two points each.

Each participating campus entity will receive a donation box. A volunteer will return each week to count and collect the donated items.

Participating departments, offices and organizations may also make cash donations for $1 a point at www.atu.edu/givetotech by clicking on the “Make a Gift” link on the left-hand side of the page.

Once on the gift page, donors may click on the “area(s) of your choice” link and then select “ATU Food Pantry and Food Recovery Program” under “Student Services” on the menu that appears. To receive credit for a team, forward the donation confirmation e-mail to ablack9@atu.edu.

The team with the most points will receive a pizza party, a plaque and recognition at the grand opening event for the Green and Gold Cupboard.

For more information and to receive a donation box for a team, contact Angela Black, food drive coordinator, at (479) 964-0558 or ablack9@atu.edu.
