Group Receives Grant to Study Shelters

An Arkansas Tech University group recently received a $2500 grant from the Russellville Walmart to help provide shelter for those in need.

Students Design for Change is led by an interdisciplinary group of professors who hope to raise awareness of global social issues by engaging high school students and undergraduate students to promote change.

The group will utilize student teams to research homelessness and create designs for micro shelters that can be utilized to provide shelter for those in need.

Professors leading the effort include:

  • Daniel Bullock, associate professor of electrical engineering
  • Jessica Young, assistant professor of physics
  • Julie Mikles-Schluterman, associate professor of sociology
  • Megan Toland, assistant professor of journalism
