Arkansas Tech to Assist Students

To help make a smooth transition into the new academic year, Arkansas Tech will work to assist students with last-minute questions.

On Wednesday and Thursday, university representatives will be stationed at tents across campus to help students find their classes and offer well wishes.

The stations will be located at:

  • Doc Bryan Student Services Center
  • Hindsman Bell Tower
  • Hull Hall

The information tents are hosted by several campus groups including:

  • University Relations
  • the Office of Alumni
  • Department of College Student Personnel
  • the Graduate College

Carrie Phillips, director of new media, said the idea for the information tents came out of the need to make sure the university was helping its students.

“Sometimes you’re headed to class and realize that you’re not sure where a building is or how to handle something that was addressed in class that caught you off guard,” said Phillips. “We thought this was a great way to provide a familiar face to help students with any questions that they may have pop up at the last minute.”

Compared to the two previous years, the operation of the information booths has expanded through the lunch hour and into the afternoon.

“We added the afternoons to make sure we are even more visible,” said Phillips. “At the end of the day we want students to get to the right class at the right time and not miss that critical information from their professor and start out on the right foot in their collegiate experience. That’s really our goal, to make sure we are meeting that need for our students.”

The tents will be staffed from 7:30 – 11:30 a.m and 1 – 3 p.m each day.

In addition to providing information, the stations will have coffee, lemonade, water and cookies for students.
