Ozark Public Schools sixth grade EAST Lab students Ashlyn Brickley, Dru Little and Haley Rogers have partnered with Arkansas Tech-Ozark Student Government Association (SGA) to host a coat drive to help Ozark Public School students in need of winter wear.
The students are collecting adult and children’s sizes coats, jackets, hats, gloves and scarves at donation boxes in Student Services and Alvin F. Vest Student Union located at Arkansas Tech-Ozark at 1700 Helberg Lane. Items will be collected for distribution on Nov. 20.
The students were asked by their EAST Lab instructor, Cynthia Powers, to complete a community project. The students contacted Arkansas Tech-Ozark with the idea of a coat drive. In return, SGA has named the students “Honorary Cabinet Members” for 2015-16 with plans for the students to help with projects throughout the year.
SGA Staff Advisor Angela Cox said she is thrilled to have the EAST Lab students as the newest members of SGA. The students met on Nov. 11 with SGA for their first meeting and also received a tour of Arkansas Tech-Ozark.
“We’re so happy to have the students on campus and see them taking such an active role in giving back to their community,” Cox said. “Ashlyn, Dru and Haley all embody what it takes to be leaders, and we are looking forward to working with them throughout the year.”
