Olson Named President of AACAE

Regina Olson, director of Adult and Continuing Education for Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus, has been named president of the Arkansas Association of Continuing and Adult Education (AACAE) last month.

The purpose of AACAE is to promote and enhance education activities for adults; to promote and encourage the professional growth of certified and noncertified staff; to provide a forum for exchange of ideas and enhance cooperation between professional adult educators and other organizations.

The organization is responsible for organizing the annual Arkansas Association for Continuing Adult Education State Conference which typically has over 300 educators in attendance.

Olson, former vice president of the AACAE for last two years, succeeds former president Debbie Shelton.

“I look forward to working with the community of adult educators to continue the success of the AACAE program,” she said.

Olson has been the director of the Adult and Continuing Education Program for Arkansas Tech-Ozark since July 2012. The program earned the most improved adult education program award for 2012-13.

“I love opportunities like this that allow me to learn, grow and bring Arkansas Tech-Ozark to the forefront by reflecting our mission to inspire and empower members of the community to achieve their goals while striving for the betterment of Arkansas,” she said.

Arkansas Tech-Ozark has adult education centers in Booneville, Charleston, Clarksville, Ozark and Paris. Along with its GED program, the centers also teach English-as-a-second-language (ESL) and workplace classes, as well as basic skills reviews for those in need of upgrading skills to enter higher education, the military or workforce.
