Arkansas Tech-Ozark Campus Receives National Accreditation

The Health Information Management Associate degree program at Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus has been granted accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM) last month.

CAHIIM is a non-profit independent accrediting organization. CAHIIM is the globally recognized and trusted accreditation organization for Health Informatics and Health Information Management education programs to ensure the development of a workforce that meets the challenge of an information-intensive environment and its impact on global health.

CAHIIM recommended Arkansas Tech-Ozark be granted CAHIIM accreditation after a rigorous assessment. The program has voluntarily undergone the review process and has been determined to meet or exceed the Standards set by the Board of Directors.

The program was analyzed against a set educational and industry standards in purpose, goals related to curriculum, faculty development, students and graduates, communities of interest and
Advisory board.

“By seeking this accreditation, the campus and program is assuring employers that our program graduates are properly trained to meet professional standards,” Program Chair Bonnie Sher said. “We are so proud to be recognized by CAHIIM and to celebrate the hard work of our program.”

Sher also noted that Arkansas Tech University-Ozark is currently the only accredited two-year program in the Arkansas River Valley and the program’s success is not likely to stop here.

“We will continue to grow by adding more specialized areas of study within the Health Information Management Program in the near future,” Sher said.

Sher and Huntsinger will also be hosting a study boot camp to help Health Information Management graduates prepare for the National Registered Health Information Technician Certification test. Those interested may email Sher at bsher@atu.edu or Huntsinger at bhuntsinger@atu.edu.

Arkansas Tech-Ozark offers a technical certificate in Health Information Technology, as well as an Associate of Applied Science in Health Information Technology.
