Arkansas Tech University, Arkansas State University, Southern Arkansas University and the University of Arkansas at Monticello celebrated 100 years of service to the people of Arkansas on Wednesday with a ceremonial re-enactment of the signing of the bill that created all four institutions in 1909.
The ceremony was held inside the State Capitol Rotunda. Gov. Mike Beebe spoke to the assembled crowd about the importance of higher education to Arkansas and expressed optimism for the future of the four institutions celebrating their centennial. Gov. Beebe then participated in the ceremonial re-signing of Act 100 of the 37th Arkansas General Assembly.
Other speakers included Dr. Robert C. Brown, president of Arkansas Tech; Dr. Jack Lassiter, chancellor of UA-Monticello; Dr. David Rankin, president of Southern Arkansas; and Dr. Robert Potts, chancellor of Arkansas State. Click here for QuickTime
