Students Attend Upward Bound Academy

Area high school students are at Arkansas Tech for the annual Upward Bound Summer Academy.

During the summer session, students live in the residence halls and are taught by a team of university personnel in a variety of subjects including math, science, English and other elective areas.

In addition to taking academic courses, the students will have the opportunity to utilize campus technology to develop computer skills and review skills needed for the ACT exam.

The Upward Bound program at Arkansas Tech University is a college preparation grant program for high school students in the communities surrounding Russellville, and students from the following high schools are participating in this year’s academy:

  • Atkins
  • Danville
  • Dardanelle

  • Hector
  • Lamar
  • Pottsville
  • Two Rivers
  • Western Yell

The Upward Bound program is under the umbrella of TRIO, a federal initiative created in 1965 to overcome class, social and cultural barriers to higher education.
