OOTD Walk Brings ATU, Community Together

Arkansas Tech University students, faculty and staff joined with members of the Arkansas River Valley community to participate in and support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Out of the Darkness walk on the ATU campus in Russellville on Saturday, April 15.

Preliminary numbers from walk co-organizers Kristy Davis, ATU associate dean for student wellness, and Tonya Gosnell, community education manager for Turning Point Adult Behavioral Health at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, indicate that 553 walkers participated in the 2017 walk at Arkansas Tech.

Among the participants was Miss Arkansas 2016 Savannah Skidmore.

As of the day of the walk, the 2017 ATU Out of the Darkness suicide prevention walk has raised $19,104 to support programs and outreach by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

The goal for the 2017 event is $20,000. Arkansas Tech’s walk has ranked among the top 10 fund-raising campus walks to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention each of the past three years.

Donations for the 2017 ATU Out of the Darkness suicide prevention walk will be accepted through June 30, 2017.
