MLK Day Events at ATU Focus on Service

More than 250 members of the Arkansas Tech University community recalled the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a celebration of remembrance and campus-wide service project on Monday, Jan. 15.

The event started at Hindsman Tower with performances by the United Voices of Praise and ATU Dance Company registered student organizations. A campus march from Hindsman Tower to the W.O. Young Building was led by members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, an organization in which King held membership.

Once they reached the W.O. Young Building Ballroom, those in attendance packed 1,000 personal hygiene kits. The kits will be distributed to members of the local community through the Green and Gold Cupboard, the River Valley Shelter for Battered Women and Children and the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Arkansas River Valley.

It marked the fourth consecutive year that ATU has participated in a campus-wide community service project on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
