Healthcare Students Collaborate

In a packed classroom in Dean Hall, dozens of students interested in a career in healthcare are meeting to learn from one another.

The only noticeable difference between the students is the color of their scrubs. Students enrolled in the nursing program at Arkansas Tech are wearing black, while students studying in the occupational therapy assistant program on the Ozark Campus are dressed in green.

Professors divide the students into groups, placing students from both programs together. Students studying in the occupational therapy assistant program shared their knowledge in range of motion, while the nursing students explained more about various vital signs.

Susan Self, assistant professor of nursing, was one of the professors taking part in the collaboration.

“It went so well, and we had such positive comments from the students, ” said Self. “We are already planning to incorporate a day-long activity each semester in the future.”
