Guest Musical Theatre Cabaret Monday Night

Arkansas Tech University will host a guest performance of “Everything Changes: A Musical Theatre Cabaret” on Monday, Jan. 29.

The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Witherspoon Auditorium, 407 West Q Street in Russellville. Admission will be free and open to the public.

The cabaret was co-written by Maggie Garrett, associate professor of music at Ouachita Baptist University, and actress Kelli Barrett. John Alec Briggs, lecturer in music at Ouachita Baptist, serves as music director.

“This cabaret performance was the product of a fall 2016 sabbatical,” said Garrett (photographed). “In it, I share honest autobiographical stories of my experience as a mother, a daughter and a wife amidst repertoire from music theatre and pop genres. Making this show has given me confidence to be a healthier and more stylistically accurate vocal example for my music theater students. I hope that others will be inspired to explore healthy belt technique, research music theatre repertoire and tell their stories through cabarets.”

Selections included in the performance include “Rock Star Mom Medley” and “Love Song Mash Up” as well as popular hits “Yellow” by Coldplay and “Count on Me” by Bruno Mars. Music theatre and Disney selections include David Shire’s “I Want It All” and “The Ladies Singing Their Song,” Stephen Sondheim’s “I Remember” and “Children Will Listen.”

Alan Menken’s “Mother Knows Best” William Finn’s “Anytime (I Am There),” Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez’s “Let It Go” and Sara Bareilles’ “Everything Changes” are also part of the cabaret.
