Green and Gold Cupboard Coming Fall 2017

Arkansas Tech University has signed an agreement with Because We Can, a registered student organization on its Russellville campus, that will help make the new Green and Gold Cupboard campus pantry possible.

The agreement gives Because We Can permission to access and utilize the university-owned facility at 1019 N. Arkansas Ave., which is the former Oak Tree Bistro location immediately south of Taco John’s restaurant.

That location will become the site of the Green and Gold Cupboard beginning in fall 2017.

The path to the creation of the Green and Gold Cupboard began in August 2016 when Tyson Foods, Inc., announced a $67,760 grant to Because We Can to begin the program.

The new food pantry will provide access to meals for Arkansas Tech students, faculty members and staff members facing food insecurity, which is defined as lacking reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food.
