Musicians from seven universities across the State of Arkansas will perform the annual Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Province Four American music concert at Arkansas Tech University on Saturday, Jan. 13.

The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Witherspoon Auditorium, 407 West Q Street in Russellville.

Admission will be free and open to the public.

Men of Song Chorus and Sinfonian Winds are the two ensembles scheduled to perform. The groups include Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia fraternity members from Arkansas State University, Arkansas Tech University, Henderson State University, Southern Arkansas University, the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville, the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff and the University of Central Arkansas.

Dr. Jon Clements, associate professor of music at ATU, will direct the Men of Song Chorus. Danny Davis, a retired high school band director and alumnus of ATU, will direct the Sinfonian Winds.

Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia is the world’s oldest and largest secret national fraternal society in music. Sinfonia was born on Oct. 6, 1898, at the New England Conservatory in Boston, when a group of 13 young men under the guidance of Ossian Everett Mills met “to consider the social life of the young men students of that institution [and] to devise ways and means by which it might be improved.”

Sinfonia became a national fraternity on Oct. 6, 1900, with the admission of a group of men at the Broad Street Conservatory in Philadelphia.
