ATU Concert, Symphonic Bands Play Thursday

Arkansas Tech University will present the ATU Concert Band and the ATU Symphonic Band in concert on Thursday, April 26.

The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Witherspoon Auditorium, 407 West Q Street in Russellville. Admission will be free and open to the public.

The ATU Concert Band is a spring semester large ensemble dedicated to the non-music major population. The band performs two concerts per year.

ATU Concert Band is open to all students in the university without a required audition. It will perform pieces by Dmitri Shostakovich, Gustav Holst and John Philip Sousa on Thursday night. Ralph Brody, visiting lecturer of music, conducts the ATU Concert Band.

The ATU Symphonic Band is comprised primarily of music majors, but is open to students of all majors by audition. It offers two performances per year during the spring semester.

Dr. Daniel A. Belongia, associate professor of music and director of bands, conducts the ATU Symphonic Band. Its program on Thursday includes works by Percy Grainger, John Mackey and Brian Balmages.

Garreth Atwell, Jordan Ladyman and Jackie Seres will appear as student conductors during Thursday night’s concert.
