Wonder Boys Take Down No. 4 Muleriders

Home runs by Mark Vaughn and Cody Wescott helped Arkansas Tech University register an 8-4 non-conference baseball victory over nationally fourth-ranked Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia on Tuesday.

Marcus Wilson, Dylan McDearmon and Zach Klockowski added one run batted in apiece for the Wonder Boys (27-16), who improved to 9-3 in their last 12 games.

ATU starting pitcher Nate Rutherford (2-1) earned the win on the mound by limiting the Muleriders (33-8) to four runs, three of which were earned, on eight hits over five and two-thirds innings.

Isaac Hale, Jason Hastings and Jesse Harbin combined to provide the Wonder Boys with three and one-third innings of scoreless relief pitching. Harbin was credited with his seventh save of 2017.

Arkansas Tech and Southern Arkansas will meet again on Sunday, April 23, and Monday, April 24, for a three-game Great American Conference series at Tech Field in Russellville. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. both days.
