Wonder Boys, Golden Suns Moving On Up

Arkansas Tech University climbed five positions in both the American Football Coaches Association and American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division II top 25 polls released on Monday, Sept. 25.

The Wonder Boys (4-0 overall, 4-0 Great American Conference) are No. 11 in the AFCA rankings following their 52-0 win at Southern Nazarene University on Saturday. Tech has outscored its last three football opponents by a combined score of 136-24.

It is Tech’s highest national ranking in football sinceĀ it was ranked No. 9 in the nation on Oct. 25, 2005.

The Wonder Boys will host Ouachita Baptist University for a 6 p.m. contest at Thone Stadium at Buerkle Field on Saturday, Sept. 30. Tickets ($10 adults/$5 students and senior citizens) will be available at the stadium ticket office on game day. Admission will be free for those with a valid ATU identification card.

The Golden Suns (16-0 overall, 3-0 GAC) reached the No. 19 position on the AVCA poll thanks to wins last week over Harding University and Ouachita Baptist University. Harding and OBU were the top two teams in the preseason GAC poll.

This week marks the highest national ranking in the recorded history of ATU volleyball.

The Golden Suns will visit Henderson State University at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 26, and they will host the University of Arkansas-Monticello at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28.

Admission to Tucker Coliseum on Thursday will be free.

As of Sept. 25, 2017, there are three NCAA Division II members nationally-ranked in football and volleyball (Arkansas Tech, Ferris State University and Winona State University) and there are two NCAA Division II members undefeated in football and volleyball (Arkansas Tech and Wingate University).

Arkansas Tech is the only NCAA Division II member undefeated and nationally-ranked in those two sports in 2017.
