Arkansas Tech University maintained its hold on second place in the Great American Conference baseball standings by taking 2-of-3 games from Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Okla., on Friday and Saturday.
The Wonder Boys (16-10 overall, 12-3 GAC) will host the University of Arkansas-Monticello for a non-conference game at Tech Field in Russellville on Tuesday, March 21. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
Game One: Tech 5, SNU 4
Dylan McDearmon’s RBI double in the top of the 10th inning proved to be the game-winning hit in a 5-4 Arkansas Tech win against Southern Nazarene on Friday.
Marcus Wilson scored on the play to break a 4-4 tie. Quentin Bowling came out of the Wonder Boys’ bullpen to retire the Crimson Storm in order in the bottom of the 10th inning for his second save of the season.
Jesse Harbin (1-1) pitched one and one-third innings of relief for Tech to earn the win on the mound.
Wilson, McDearmon, Kyle Gibbs, Cody Wescott and Seth Wheeler had two hits apiece for the Wonder Boys.
SNU relief pitcher Mike Descisciolo (0-1) allowed three runs on six hits in four innings.
Game Two: SNU 8, Tech 1
Southern Nazarene’s Anthony Wiggins drove in four runs and the Crimson Storm defeated Arkansas Tech 8-1 in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader.
SNU’s Jefferson Harris (1-2) pitched a complete game. He allowed one run on seven hits in nine innings.
Tech starting pitcher Trent Armstrong (3-2) surrendered five runs on six hits over six innings.
Game Three: Tech 3, SNU 2
Solo home runs by Kyle Love and Zach Klockowski helped Arkansas Tech record a 3-2 victory over Southern Nazarene in the rubber match of the series on Saturday.
The Wonder Boys built a 3-0 lead and then held on for a one-run victory after Southern Nazarene’s Tyler Stevens hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning.
Geoffrey Birkemeier (4-2) pitched the first five and one-third innings for Tech, limiting the Crimson Storm to two runs on seven hits. Bowling recorded the final five outs for his third save of 2017.
SNU starting pitcher David Gustafson (0-5) was charged with three runs on six hits over five and one-third innings.
