Wonder Boys Clinch Berth in GAC Tourney

Game One: Arkansas Tech 5, HU 2 Cole Fergus’ three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning propelled Arkansas Tech to a 5-2 victory over Harding in Saturday’s first game. With the Wonder Boys trailing 1-0, Fergus sent his 13th home run of the season over the center field fence to put Arkansas Tech in front 3-1. Starting pitcher Trent Armstrong (6-1) took it from there for the Wonder Boys. He went the distance, scattering 10 hits over nine innings while striking out six. He allowed two runs on two hits. Collin O’Neil added an RBI single and Kris Ayers had an RBI double for Arkansas Tech. Harding starting pitcher Andrew Fiddler (6-3) surrendered four runs on seven hits in six innings. Game Two: Arkansas Tech 4, HU 2 Arkansas Tech also used a home run to take the lead for good in game two as it defeated Harding 4-2. This time it was Ayers with the big fly. His seventh home run of 2015 came in the bottom of the fourth inning, and it gave the Wonder Boys a 2-1 lead. Keenan Jumper followed later in the inning with a two-run single to make it 4-1. Kyle Offenbacker recorded an RBI single for Harding in the top of the sixth inning, but that was as close as the Bisons could get. Tech’s Rafiel Johnson (2-0) pitched the first five innings. He allowed one run on five hits. Randy Vallejo worked the sixth inning for the Wonder Boys and Ryan Vruggink recorded the final three outs for his third save of the season. Collin Campbell (5-2) started on the mound for the Bisons. He was charged with four runs, three of which were earned, on seven hits in five innings.]]>
