Williams Named GAC Co-Player of the Week

Arkansas Tech University’s Lyrik Williams was recognized by the Great American Conference on Monday, Jan. 8, for her performance in a pair of Golden Suns’ victories last week.

Williams was named GAC women’s basketball co-player of the week, sharing the honor with Hailey Tucker of Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

A junior forward from Crystal, Minn., Williams scored 17 points and collected 13 rebounds in a 96-87 Tech win at Oklahoma Baptist University on Thursday. She followed that up with an 18-point, 14-rebound performance to help the Golden Suns defeat Southern Nazarene University 85-83 on Saturday. It was Tech’s fifth consecutive win.

Williams has recorded a double-double in each of Arkansas Tech’s last three games, and she has five double-doubles through her first 10 games in the green and gold.

The Golden Suns (9-1 overall, 5-1 GAC) will visit Henderson State University for a 5:30 p.m. league contest in Arkadelphia on Thursday, Jan. 11. Radio station KCJC 102.3 FM and www.arkansastechsports.com will have live coverage from the Duke Wells Center.
