Arkansas Tech University took all three games of a Great American Conference baseball series against Southwestern Oklahoma State University at Weatherford, Okla., on Friday and Saturday.
The Wonder Boys (5-5 overall, 3-0 GAC) will face Missouri Southern State University for a 2 p.m. non-conference game in Joplin, Mo., on Tuesday, Feb. 21.
Game One: Tech 17, SWOSU 0
Zach Klockowski went 4-for-4 with three home runs and nine runs batted in to key a 17-0 Arkansas Tech win over Southwestern Oklahoma State on Friday.
It was the first three home run game by an ATU player since Colt Loehrs hit three home runs against Christian Brothers University on March 27, 2010.
It was all more than enough run support for Wonder Boys’ starting pitcher Kyle Wilson (1-0), who held the Bulldogs scoreless on two hits over seven innings. Wilson notched 12 strikeouts.
Cody Wescott added three RBIs, while Mark Vaughn and Kyle Love contributed two RBIs apiece.
SWOSU starting pitcher Gunnar Cook (0-1) allowed eight runs, five of which were earned, on seven hits in three and two-thirds innings.
Game Two: Tech 7, SWOSU 3
Arkansas Tech’s Dylan McDearmon went 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs to lead the Wonder Boys to a 7-3 victory over Southwestern Oklahoma State in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader.
Marcus Wilson and Seth Wheeler both drove in two runs for Tech.
ATU starting pitcher Trent Armstrong (1-1) limited the Bulldogs to one run on three hits in seven and one-third innings. Armstrong recorded six strikeouts.
Branden Bohuslav emerged from the Wonder Boys’ bullpen to get the final five outs.
Devin Ring (1-1) pitched the first three and two-thirds innings for SWOSU. He surrendered five runs, two of which were earned, on six hits.
Game Three: Tech 5, SWOSU 3
Arkansas Tech relief pitchers Geoffrey Birkemeier and Jesse Harbin combined to retire the final six Southwestern Oklahoma State hitters of the game and preserve a 5-3 Wonder Boys’ victory over the Bulldogs in the series finale on Saturday.
Birkemeier (1-1) pitched five and one-third innings, limiting SWOSU to one run on four hits while striking out five. Harbin’s 1-2-3 seventh inning allowed him to earn his first save of 2017.
McDearmon and Wescott had two RBIs apiece for Arkansas Tech. Klockowski drove in the Wonder Boys’ other run.
Bulldog starting pitcher Brendan Peitsmeyer (1-2) was charged with five runs, four of which were earned, on nine hits in four innings.
