Suns Rally to Win Central Region Preview

Arkansas Tech University fired its best single-round women’s golf team score in 18 months on Tuesday to come from behind and win the Central Region Spring Preview at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield, Mo.

The Golden Suns shot 293 in the final round to finish the 36-hole event with a total of 601, which was 14 strokes better than runner-up Southwestern Oklahoma State University. A total of 18 teams competed in the event.

Tech shot 308 in the first round on Monday and entered Tuesday’s play seven strokes behind SWOSU, which shot 301-314 for a 615 total.

The Golden Suns’ 293 on Tuesday was their best team score since they posted 293 at the Dallas Baptist University Classic in October 2016.

ATU’s Peerada Piddon finished tied for first in the individual standings. She fired rounds of 74 and 72 for a 146 total.

Avery Struck (5th, 75-75-150), Allie Weiner (9th, 80-72-152), Pia Nunbhakdi (T-10th, 79-74-153) and Holly Standing (T-40th, 81-84-165) also competed for the Golden Suns in Springfield.

Arkansas Tech’s MaKenzie Douglas (T-31st, 81-80-161) and Hanna Haltom (T-37th, 83-81-164) played as individuals.

Arkansas Tech will participate in the Great American Conference Golf Championships April 22-24 at Hot Springs Country Club. The Golden Suns are three-time defending GAC women’s golf champions.
