Southern Nazarene Sweeps Golden Suns

Game One: SNU 4, Arkansas Tech 1 Southern Nazarene starting pitcher Kayla Wyatt notched 11 strikeouts in a complete-game, 4-1 victory over Arkansas Tech in game one Saturday. Wyatt (9-12) limited the Golden Suns to one run on three hits in seven innings. Alexa Wimberly drove in Arkansas Tech’s lone run with a home run. Janie Knowles was 2-for-2 for the Golden Suns. Jill Clemence, Melissa Padilla and Hannah LeBeau had two hits apiece for the Crimson Storm. Game Two: SNU 6, Arkansas Tech 5 An Arkansas Tech comeback bid fell just short and Southern Nazarene completed the sweep with a 6-5 victory in Saturday’s nightcap. Trailing 6-2 going to the bottom of the seventh and final inning, the Golden Suns put together a three-run rally. Knowles had a two-run single and Alex Edinger scored on a wild pitch to pull Arkansas Tech within 6-5 with two outs. SNU’s Wyatt, pitching in a relief role in game two, notched a strikeout to strand the tying run at third base and the winning run at second base. Katelyn Brown (8-14) provided the Crimson Storm with three and two-thirds innings of relief work and was named the winning pitcher. She allowed three runs on six hits. Wyatt collected her fifth save of 2015. Knowles was 2-for-4 with three runs batted in for the Golden Suns. Both Edinger and Wimberly had two hits. Clemence and Brown recorded two RBIs apiece for Southern Nazarene.]]>
