North Earns Weekly Award from GAC

Arkansas Tech University’s Cheyenne North was named Great American Conference women’s basketball co-player of the week by the league office on Monday, Dec. 5.

A junior forward from Gallatin, Tenn., North averaged 27 points and eight rebounds per game last week while helping the Golden Suns (6-1 overall, 3-1 GAC) defeat Oklahoma Baptist University 75-66 and Southern Nazarene University 89-86 during a two-game road trip.

North established a new season high with 20 points at Oklahoma Baptist on Thursday, and she broke that mark less than 48 hours later by netting 34 points at Southern Nazarene on Saturday.

She was 20-of-42 from the field and 11-of-14 from the free throw line over the course of the two games.

North also averaged three blocked shots per game last week, including one with 41 seconds left at Southern Nazarene that helped seal Arkansas Tech’s fifth consecutive win.

Also receiving GAC co-player of the week honors on Dec. 5 was Henderson State University’s Pink Jones.

The Golden Suns will host Drury University (8-1) for a 5:30 p.m. non-conference game at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville on Wednesday, Dec. 7.
