Game One: Tech 2, Hendrix 1 Arkansas Tech put together a fourth-inning rally and four Wonder Boys pitchers combined to help their side hang on for a 2-1 victory over Hendrix in Tuesday’s opener. With Hendrix leading 1-0, Sage Boehner sparked Arkansas Tech in the bottom of the fourth inning with a lead-off double. Chance Scamardo followed with a two-base hit of his own, driving in Boehner with the tying run. Scamardo went to third base on a single by Patrick Castleberry, and Kris Ayers brought Scamardo in with the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly to center field. The Arkansas Tech bullpen took it from there. Relief pitcher Ethan Crocker (3-0) pitched one and one-third innings of scoreless relief. Jake Bell retired the Warriors in order in the top of the sixth inning — including two strikeouts — to set the stage for closer Randy Vallejo. Hendrix was able to put the tying run at second base with one out in the top of the seventh, but Vallejo struck out Brady Newville and got Zane Heather to fly out to right field to end the game. It was Vallejo’s 13th save of the season, adding to his school-record single-season total in that category. Game Two: Tech 4, Hendrix 2 A baseball team has to be very good to win 19 consecutive games, but a little help from the opposition never hurts. Hendrix walked three batters, threw two wild pitches, hit a batter with a pitch and committed an error in the bottom of the sixth inning to fuel an Arkansas Tech comeback in a 4-2 Wonder Boys’ win in the nightcap on Tuesday. The Warriors led 2-0 before coming unhinged in the last of the sixth. Patrick Castleberry and Jay Johnson both drove in runs for Arkansas Tech during the rally. Boehner scored the tying run on a wild pitch and Scamardo was forced home with the go-ahead run on a bases-loaded walk to Johnson. Crocker (4-0) was credited with the win after he retired Hendrix in order in the top of the sixth. Vallejo worked the seventh inning for his 14th save of 2014.]]>
