Literacy Night at Tech Basketball Monday

Arkansas Tech University will put its support behind the cause of childhood literacy during its home basketball games against Harding University on Monday, Feb. 13.

Elementary school students will receive free admission to Tucker Coliseum with a paid adult, and all elementary students in attendance will receive a free book.

In addition, Tyson Foods will serve free bratwursts with chips and drink to the first 600 fans in attendance, and the first 150 ATU students in attendance will receive a free T-shirt.

Tickets ($5 adults/$3 students and senior citizens) will be available at the door. Those with a valid Arkansas Tech identification card will be admitted free of charge.

About the Golden Suns: Arkansas Tech has won four consecutive games, including a 78-63 victory at Ouachita Baptist University on Saturday. The Golden Suns are 11-1 at Tucker Coliseum in 2016-17. Tech ranks among the top 20 teams in NCAA Division II in both field goal percentage (.453) and rebound margin (+8.5 per game). The Golden Suns dropped a 72-58 decision at Harding on Jan. 16.

About the Lady Bisons: Harding will arrive at Tucker Coliseum on a five-game winning streak. The Lady Bisons defeated the University of Arkansas-Monticello 57-43 on Saturday. Harding is among the top five NCAA Division II women’s basketball teams in field goal percentage defense (.332) and blocked shots (5.9 per game). The Lady Bisons are two games in front of ATU for first place in the GAC women’s basketball standings with five regular season games remaining.

About the Wonder Boys: Arkansas Tech extended its winning streak to eight games with an 89-85 win at Ouachita Baptist on Saturday. The Wonder Boys rank No. 14 in NCAA Division II in scoring offense (89.1 points per game) and fifth in the nation in 3-point field goals made (12.1 per game). Tech is 1-5 in its last six meetings with Harding.

About the Bisons: Harding lost the first triple overtime game in GAC men’s basketball history on Saturday when UA-Monticello slipped past the Bisons 95-94. It was their third consecutive loss. Harding ranks No. 7 in NCAA Division II in 3-point field goal percentage defense (.302). The Bisons limited Arkansas Tech to 8-of-32 shooting from 3-point range in a 92-85 Harding victory at Searcy on Jan. 16.
