Golden Suns Volleyball Going to Italy

The Arkansas Tech Golden Suns volleyball team is still months away from its 2017 season opener, but the preparations for the 2017 season will begin in earnest in June when the Golden Suns cross the Atlantic Ocean for a tour of Italy.

In addition to an extensive tour of several historic sites, the Golden Suns will compete in three friendly matches against local competition.

The Golden Suns will depart from Little Rock on Thursday, June 1, and will arrive in Milan on Friday, June 2 (due to the difference in time), and will travel to the Como Lake area for an orientation tour of the city before checking into their hotel.

On Saturday, after a tour of the Como area, the Golden Suns wil take the public hydrofoil to Bellagio, and that evening will play their first friendly matchup against Eldor Volley. After a practice on Sunday, the Golden Suns will transfer back to Milan and will take a guided tour of the city, with some time for individual sightseeing.

The Suns will head south on Monday, June 5, to Tuscany, touring the Square of Miracles and the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and then on Tuesday, June 6, will continue to Florence. After a morning tour and lunch, the Golden Suns will play their second friendly matchup against a to-be-determined local opponent.

On Wednesday, June 7, the Golden Suns will start the day with a pizza making course, learning how to prepare an original Italian pizza; then transferring to Lucca for a bike tour before settling in for the evening. On Thursday morning, the Suns will depart for Rome and will get a guided tour of some of the city’s most important landmarks, concluding with a visit of the Colosseum.

The Golden Suns will transfer to Vatican City on Friday morning for a guided visit of the Vatican museums, the Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica. After time for some individual sightseeing that afternoon, the Golden Suns will play their final friendly matchup against a to-be-determined local opponent before heading home on Saturday, June 10.
