Golden Suns Take Two From No. 14 SAU

Arkansas Tech University swept Monday’s doubleheader against Southern Arkansas University and earned a split in its four-game series in Magnolia with the nationally 14th-ranked Lady Muleriders.

The Golden Suns (32-20 overall, 26-14 GAC) are scheduled to host Southwestern Oklahoma State University for a four-game GAC series at the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex in Russellville on Friday, April 28, and Saturday, April 29.

Game One: Tech 5, SAU 0

Arkansas Tech starting pitcher Jalissa Gum pitched a three-hit shutout and struck out 14 Southern Arkansas hitters in a 5-0 Golden Suns’ victory in game one on Monday.

Megan Goodnight had three base hits and Gaby Vasquez notched two runs batted in for Tech. Gum, Ashley Landry and Cara Tolar added two hits apiece.

Game Two: Tech 3, SAU 2

Gum induced a game-ending ground out in the bottom of the seventh inning to strand two Southern Arkansas runners on base and preserve a 3-2 Arkansas Tech win in Monday’s nightcap.

Gum (16-10) again went the distance in the circle, limiting the Lady Muleriders to two runs on seven hits over seven innings.

Sarah Coronado was 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs for the Golden Suns. Vasquez drove in Tech’s other run.
