Golden Suns Survive and Advance in Winona

Megan Goodnight’s pitching and hitting allowed Arkansas Tech University to extend its 2018 softball season with a 4-0 win over nationally fifth-ranked and top-seeded Winona State University in an elimination bracket game at the NCAA Division II Tournament Central Regional on Friday night.

Goodnight (17-5) tossed a three-hit shutout and recorded four strikeouts in the circle at Maynard R. Johnson Field in Winona, Minn. It marked the second time in 52 games this year that Winona State (45-7) was held scoreless.

The junior from Cabot helped her own cause with a two-run home run that broke a scoreless tie in the top of the second inning. Bailey Bunch and Janie Knowles added run-scoring singles to provide the Golden Suns with their final margin.

With the win, Arkansas Tech (44-18) advances to face the University of Minnesota-Duluth (41-14) in another elimination game at 1 p.m. Saturday. Radio station KCAB 97.1 FM/980 AM and www.arkansastechsports.com will have live coverage from Maynard R. Johnson Field.
