Golden Suns Clinch 30-Win Softball Season

Arkansas Tech University clinched its fourth consecutive 30-win softball season by defeating nationally third-ranked Harding University 2-1 in the first game of a doubleheader in Searcy on Tuesday.

Jalissa Gum (14-9) went the distance in the circle for the Golden Suns, limiting the Lady Bisons to one run on three hits over seven innings. She recorded nine strikeouts.

Ashton Sangster drove in a run with a single in the fourth inning and Megan Goodnight followed suit with a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth.

This marks the first time in ATU softball history that the Golden Suns have recorded four consecutive seasons with 30 or more wins.

Harding (43-5 overall, 33-3 GAC) bounced back to win the nightcap of Tuesday’s doubleheader 2-1. Autumn Humes delivered a walk-off single that drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Arkansas Tech (30-18, 24-12) will face Southern Arkansas University for a four-game GAC series in Magnolia on Friday, April 21, and Saturday, April 22. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday.
