ATU Sweeps GAC Player of the Week Awards

Arkansas Tech University is home to the men’s basketball and women’s basketball Great American Conference players of the week for the next-to-last week of the 2016-17 regular season.

Wonder Boys’ senior guard Justin Graham of San Antonio, Texas, captured the GAC men’s weekly honor, while Golden Suns’ senior guard Anissa Pounds of Kotka, Finland, earned the GAC women’s weekly recognition. Both awards were announced by the conference office on Monday, Feb. 20.

Graham (photographed, left) averaged 21.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game while leading Tech’s men to a 3-0 week. He established new personal season highs in scoring with 29 points and in rebounds with 12 during the Wonder Boys’ 92-86 win over nationally 16th-ranked University of Arkansas-Monticello on Thursday.

Pounds (photographed, right) had her own milestone day on Saturday, pouring in a career-high 34 points as part of Tech’s 82-73 women’s victory over Henderson State University. For the week, Pounds averaged 22 points, 4.3 rebounds and four assists per contest while connecting on 10-of-20 attempts from 3-point range.

Arkansas Tech will close out the regular season this weekend with a road trip to Oklahoma.

The Golden Suns (20-4 overall, 16-4 GAC) and the Wonder Boys (20-4, 16-4) will play doubleheaders at East Central University on Thursday, Feb. 23, at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m., and Southeastern Oklahoma State University on Saturday, Feb. 25, at 1 and 3 p.m.
