ATU Nationally Ranked in Football, Volleyball

Arkansas Tech University is No. 16 in the American Football Coaches Association NCAA Division II top 25 poll and No. 24 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division II top 25 poll released on Monday, Sept. 18.

ATU and Ferris State University (Mich.) are the only NCAA Division II institutions nationally-ranked in football and volleyball this week. Arkansas Tech and Wingate University (N.C.) are the only NCAA Division II members that are still undefeated in football and volleyball for the 2017 season.

The Wonder Boys (3-0) moved up three spots from one week ago. This week’s ranking is Arkansas Tech’s highest in the AFCA poll since it was ranked No. 9 in the nation on Oct. 25, 2005.

Tech is the only Great American Conference member in this week’s AFCA poll. GAC member Southeastern Oklahoma State University (3-0) is among the other teams receiving votes.

The Golden Suns (14-0) are nationally-ranked at the NCAA Division II level for the first time in ATU volleyball history. Arkansas Tech has defeated two teams in the AVCA top 25 (Washburn University and the University of Central Missouri) during a 14-match winning streak to begin the season.

The Wonder Boys will visit Southern Nazarene University (2-1) for a 1 p.m. GAC contest at the SNU Football Stadium in Bethany, Okla., on Saturday, Sept. 23. Live coverage will be available from radio station KCJC 102.3 FM and www.arkansastechsports.com.

The Golden Suns will host Harding University (12-1) for a 6 p.m. GAC match at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville on Tuesday, Sept. 19. Admission will be free and live coverage will be available on www.arkansastechsports.com
