Allen Earns Share of GAC Weekly Award

Arkansas Tech University’s Bryan Allen was named Great American Conference co-offensive player of the week on Monday, Oct. 12, in recognition of his performance during the Wonder Boys’ 30-12 Homecoming victory over Ouachita Baptist University.

Allen, a freshman from Forrest City, carried 29 times for 279 yards and a touchdown on Saturday.

It was the second-highest single-game rushing total by an individual in Arkansas Tech football history. The only higher single-game rushing total by a Wonder Boy was compiled by Travis Horn when he carried for 288 yards in a win over the University of Central Arkansas in 2001.

The victory, which came before a Homecoming crowd of 6,976 fans, allowed the Wonder Boys to maintain a share of first place in the Great American Conference standings with five weeks remaining in the regular season.

It was Tech’s first win over OBU since 2007, and the Wonder Boys’ first victory over a ranked opponent since defeating UNC Pembroke in the first round of the 2009 NCAA Division II Playoffs.

Allen shares the GAC offensive player of the week award with University of Arkansas-Monticello quarterback Hunter Leppert, who completed 25-of-32 passes for 398 yards and five touchdowns in a 51-10 Boll Weevils’ win over Southern Nazarene University on Saturday.

The Wonder Boys will face East Central University at Norris Field in Ada, Okla., on Saturday, Oct. 17. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. Pre-game coverage on KCJC 102.3 FM and www.arkansastechsports.com will begin at 1:30 p.m.
