Fatima Adams scored 33 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to lead nationally 15th-ranked Arkansas Tech University to an 87-65 non-conference women’s basketball win over the University of North Alabama at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville on Tuesday night.
The senior All-American from Bryan, Texas, was 15-of-19 from the field. Nine of her 16 rebounds came on the offensive glass.
“(Adams) was special tonight,” said Arkansas Tech head coach Dave Wilbers. “She did a good job of knowing her spots, hanging around the basket and sealing off her defender.”
North Alabama scored the first six points of the game and led by as many as eight points in the first quarter.
Arkansas Tech (4-0) rallied in the second quarter, putting together a 12-0 run to claim a 34-28 edge with 4:02 left in the half. The Suns led 39-34 at halftime.
“It’s been feast or famine on our starts so far,” said Wilbers. “It seems like we miss a lot of shots early in the game at home.”
Tech did not miss many shots in the second half, connecting on 21-of-35 (60 percent) from the field after the intermission.
As a result, the Golden Suns built a 62-50 advantage at the end of three quarters and led by as many as 23 points in the fourth quarter.
Tech’s Aujana Dawkins scored 16 points and collected six rebounds, while Anissa Pounds had 10 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals.
KeKe Gunter scored a team-high 23 points for North Alabama (1-4).
