Trio of Wonder Boys Picked All-League

Arkansas Tech’s Laithe Massey, Johnie Davis and Jeremy Dunbar have been recognized for their performance during the 2010-11 men’s basketball season with a spot on the All-Gulf South Conference West Division team.

The all-conference men’s basketball team was announced by the GSC office on Monday, Feb. 28. The teams were selected by votes from league head coaches.

Massey (photographed, top left) and Davis (photographed, top right) were both named to the All-GSC West Division first team.

It is the second consecutive year that Massey has been named all-conference. This is Davis’ first season at Arkansas Tech after transferring in from Gulf Coast Community College (Fla.).

Dunbar (photographed, bottom), who is in his second year with the Wonder Boys, earned his first All-GSC recognition.

Massey, a 6-foot-3 senior point guard from Heber Springs, leads the GSC in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.8-to-1). He is second in the league in assists (5.4 per game) and steals (2.7 per game).

Davis, a 6-foot-2 junior guard from Canton, Ohio, ranks sixth in the conference in scoring (16.3 points per game). He reached double figures in scoring in each of Arkansas Tech’s 14 conference games.

Dunbar, a 6-foot-5 senior forward from Niceville, Fla., is 16th in the GSC in scoring (14.2 points per game) and second in the league in free throw shooting (.872). He has made a team-best 55 3-pointers this year.

The nationally ninth-ranked Wonder Boys (22-4), regular season champions of the GSC West Division, will look for their third consecutive GSC Tournament championship this weekend in Southaven, Miss.

Arkansas Tech will take on North Alabama (13-15) in the first round of the men’s tournament at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, March 4, at the DeSoto Civic Center.

The game can be heard in the Arkansas River Valley on KWKK 100.9 FM.
