Pollack Scholarship Pays Opportunity Forward

An Arkansas Tech University alumnus is being remembered through a new scholarship.

The Andrew Pollack Memorial Scholarship will be presented annually to a Russellville High School football player who plans on attending Arkansas Tech University.

The scholarship’s namesake (photographed) earned three letters with the Russellville Cyclones football program and played in the 2011 Arkansas High School Coaches Association All-Star Game.

He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree in economics and finance from ATU in 2015. He died on Aug. 5, 2017, as the result of injuries sustained in an all-terrain vehicle accident.

His wife, fellow 2015 ATU graduate Maegan Burris Pollack, teaches in the Russellville School District.

“Andrew and I were both very lucky to have scholarships,” she said. “I wanted to do this because Andrew always put others before himself. He would want me to find a way to make this a positive situation. We were very lucky to be able to attend college, and I want to help someone else have the same opportunity that we had.”

Donations can be made to the Andrew Pollack Memorial Scholarship Fund by mail at P.O. Box 826, Russellville, AR 72811; or by phone at (479) 219-6030.
